Electric Playlist: Tieranniesaur
To get you in the mood for Electric Picnic, we’re showcasing an artist a day from this year’s absolute stomper line-up. Add them all to your dance card, we wouldn’t steer you wrong.
It’s hard to imagine another Irish band from recent times that are as much fun as Popical Island DIY’ers Tieranniesaur. It’s been just over a year since the seven-piece released their debut album, not only on CD and cassette but on Ireland’s first Playbutton too – see, fun and innovative. Fronted by former teen contenders Chicks and Yeh Deadlies woman Annie Tierney, the band’s irresistible blend of funk, new-wave, disco and primary-coloured pop has since been nominated for the 2011 Choice Music Prize. No strangers to the gigging circuit at this stage, the band played a triumphant, raincloud-banishing set at this year’s Body & Soul festival.
Tieranniesaur are a percussive, hook laden delight to behold live. When the band are enjoying themselves regardless of what goes on in front of the stage the crowd ain’t got no choice but to join in. From the near-perfect pop of ‘Pretty Girl String Quartet‘ to the sugar highs of ‘Sketch!‘ and ‘Azure Island‘, the band run through Talking Heads and B-52’s style work-outs, a kinetic fourteen-armed party animal. With a handful of shiny new tracks to throw into the mix alongside the tried and tested feet-movers, don’t be afraid to move closer…they won’t bite.
